The latter is not that big of a surprise; the former is a relief: To be told that it's not just you, that there is actually something wrong that can probably be fixed, to have a name, a category, a blueprint, and also to have possible treatment options presented to you – I feel like half the battle is won.
The psychologist echoed that, by the way: Studies have shown that patients report an improvement to their mental health during the waiting period between the first interview and the beginning of therapy.
